Reviving Civility: The High Tea Society's 2nd Annual Civili-Tea Fundraiser Benefitting DC Girls

On Saturday June 25, 2011, The High Tea Society hosted its 2nd annual Civili-Tea Fundraiser at the Woman’s National Democratic Club benefitting inner city Washington Area girls.   The tea honored both area youth and adults whom exemplify "civility", a dying form of civilized coduct, in our community as well as celebrated the 2011 high school graduates from the program.

The Mistress of Ceremonies was Mariessa Terrell, Esq., Executive Director and Founding Partner of the High Tea Society and owner of the SBC IP Law Group.  2011 Communi-Tea Award Recipients included, Emmy Award Winning Aishah Karima (Director of Community Affairs NBC 4), Katherine Brdadley (President of CityBridge Foundation) and Shaniqua McClendon (Legislative Correspodent for US Senator Kay Hagan).

The goal of the High Tea Society (HTS)  is to increase the economic and social mobility of inner-city girls from economically challenged communities by preparing girls to become “Ambassadors of Civility” and equipping our girls with the academic, social and life skills to become leaders in their local communities and, as well, in the global community.  In 1997, Associate Judge Mary Terrell who was greatly disturbed by her observation of the behavior of girls that revealed improper demeanor, decorum, discourse and discipline in their social interactions with peers and adults founded HTS. Today the HTS maintains three signature programs, Teaching through Tea (TTT), Sophisticated, Talented, Articulate and Responsible girls (STARS) and Charming by Design (CBD).

Proud sponsors of The Civili-Tea included:  Geico, Women's National Democratic Club, Washington Teacher's Union, Champion Awards, Trophies and Goods Inc., Sweet Tooth Cakes and Pastries, The Design Factory, Innovative Enterprise, Donne Belle Productios, Residential Renovators, Jack Olender and Associates P.C., Eagle Office Systems, Honest Tea, Susaar Studio Graphique, Mint Gym and Spa, Downdog Yoga, Tarara Winery, Studio Theatre, Washington Improv Theatre and Las Amercas Dental.
