DC Taxicab Commission Proposed Rule to Adjust Rates and Modernize Fleet

The D.C. Taxicab Commission today approved proposed new rules that will bring the District’s cab fares more in line with peer jurisdictions and initiate modernization of the District’s taxicab fleet. The fares will rise slightly on trips under five miles and more quickly for long-distance rides. The proposed rules also begin the process of eliminating outdated vehicles as taxicabs.

Mayor Gray Meets with Community and Announces DC Streetcar Interim Connection to Union Station

Last night, at a public meeting on the H Street/Benning Road Streetcar line, Mayor Vincent C. Gray announced that an interim connection to Union Station would be used. The Mayor told the crowd of residents and business owners that the District will move forward with plans to link the streetcar to the train station via the Hopscotch Bridge that carries H Street over the Amtrak tracks.

To observe the Thanksgiving holiday, all Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) locations will be closed on Thursday, November 24.  All DMV service centers, the vehicle inspection station, and adjudication services will open with regular operations on November 25.

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) today announced it has added new features to its Transportation Online Permitting System (TOPS) that makes the program even more user friendly for the public. The changes will make it easier for some businesses to apply and pay for permits, and also enable residents to search online for information about public space permits.
