Check out a few happy alumni below. You can help us complete more families this weekend by sharing our Name Your Own Fee cat adoption promotion – adopt a fabulous feline age 6 months or older for the fee of your choosing! We hope to see you at our adoption centers.

Wadel
“Just a note to let you know Wadel the guinea pig is doing well and is quite the charmer. She always enjoys the view from the top. She has a rabbit-size pigloo now so she can stretch out up there.”

Chanty
Adopter Chris Johnson shares with us a photo of Chanty with his new big brother. Aww!

Brody
“I am submitting a picture of my ‘forever friend,’ Brody.  I adopted him from the New York Ave adoption center in December 2009.  Brody gives a whole new meaning to ‘road dog.’  Life was good before...now life is great!

Find That Purrfect Friend For Your Own Perfect Adoption Fee

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) - The Washington Humane Society (WHS) is giving potential adopters a chance to name their own adoption fee for all cats age 6 months or older from Wednesday, August 1, through Sunday, August 5.

With an extremely high volume of cats during this summer "kitten season," when huge numbers of kittens arrive weekly, WHS is calling on the community to help save lives by adopting a cat (or even two cats) in need, and as an incentive, you can choose what you'd like to pay to bring your feline(s) home.

Hundreds of cats are seeking their forever homes, including those in the attached photos: Gidget, Sicily, Simba, Sylvester and Tweetie (those two are so bonded, they're hoping to be adopted together)

Adoption counselors will answer questions, and all the usual matchmaking procedures will remain in effect to ensure the animals find the best homes possible, and that their adoptive owners will be happy and satisfied.

Kitten Foster Caregivers Urgently Needed!

Kitten Foster Caregivers Urgently Needed!

Love kittens? The Washington Humane Society (WHS) needs your help! You can help save lives by providing space and care for the more than 70 kittens in need during this busy summer season.

In the last week alone we have taken in over 75 kittens and 40 adult cats. As the open admission shelter in the District, we never turn away an animal who needs our help, but our space and resources are limited. We are calling on our caring community to provide an invaluable, life-saving service by simply opening your hearts and homes to kittens in need for a little while as we seek permanent homes for them.
