Doggie Swim Day In DC

Let your four-legged friend enjoy the last days of summer at the pool!

The 4th Annual DPR Doggie Day Swim will take place on September 8 from 12p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Upshur Pool (4300 Arkansas Avenue, NW) and Francis Pool (25th & N Street, NW).

The event allows dogs to to enjoy one day of pool activities, swimming, aquatic games and is hosted by the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), Department of Health (DOH) and the Washington Humane Society (WHS).

DOH will be monitoring your pets health and will be offering information regarding vaccinations, dog licenses and dog park licenses. Doggie water bowls will also be available (one per owner, on a first come first serve bases) by DC Water.

The event is free for DC residents and their dogs. There is a capacity limit for the number of dogs allowed in the pool during Doggie Day Swim at one time: 75 dogs at Upshur Pool and 150 dogs at Francis Pool.

To celebrate Shark Week, The Discovery Channel’s week-long series of TV programs devoted to Sharks, which began on Sunday, August 12, Georgetown Cupcake decided to feature signature treats.

Attention: Film and food lovers! 

This year the DC Shorts Film Festival has partnered up with Whole Foods Markets and The Coterie, a culinary society start-up that offers exclusive dining opportunities to its members, to show a collection of food themed films from around the world.

Eight of the films have been paired with chefs who will be preparing small plates for the audience inspired by the movies.

This event begins on September 6 and runs through the September 16. Films will be shown in various locations throughout D.C.

Craft Brewers Fest Highlights Local Breweries In D.C. Area

Beer lovers will unite on Saturday, August 25 for the First Annual Virginia Craft Brewers Fest in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.

The Beer Fest includes 20 of Virginia’s finest craft breweries to sample, such as: DC’s Capitol City Brewing Co., Roanoke’s Big Daddy Brewing Co., Leesburg’s Vintage 50, Alexandria’s Port City Brewing Co., Blacksburg’s Bull & Bones Brewery and more, as well as bike racing, live music, and camping.

Food will be provided by "The Rock Barn,” which is famous for it's Beer-poached Bratwurst with roasted onions and apple mustard, Shrimp ‘n Grits with Andouille sausage, scallions, and cheddar cheese, and the soft pretzels toasted in Munich Malt salt, porter fondue, and black lager mustard.

Each ticket provides you with 10, 4oz tastes of Virginia’s premium ale and a glass, but there are food and 20 oz.  beer tasting packages available as well.

Moonlit Movies in D.C. Begin Aug. 13!

There is something magical about watching a movie while lying on a blanket outside.

The National Park Service is providing this outdoor experience for families to enjoy free, family-oriented films in Lincoln Park located at 13th and East Capitol Streets in Northeast, D.C.

All are invited to “Movies by Moonlight” and are encouraged to bring their own snacks, lawn chairs and blankets; however alcohol and grills are not allowed.

“Movies by Moonlight” kicks off Monday, August 13, at 8:45 p.m., with Night at the Museum featuring Ben Stiller.

The next showing will be on Saturday, September 15, at 8:45 p.m., with the animated comedy, Madagascar.
