Join Stratford University’s Falls Church campus for its annual Spring 2011 career fair. Attendees will be able to meet with local employers to learn about job opportunities, as well as learn about various programs the university offers including Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Culinary Arts, and Hospitality Management.

Admission is free of charge and open to the public.

Art and culture in the District of Columbia are often thought to be exclusively west of the Anacostia River. Certainly, the vast majority of D.C.'s cultural attractions and events are located on the northwest side of the Sousa Bridge. But THEARC Theater has opened a door for the arts in the city's less heralded wards.

If you’ve ever visited one of our shelters, you know that there are far more cats available for adoption that there are dogs. This is not a problem found just in DC, nationally, cats out number any other animal entering shelters by at least 2 to 1!

As summer approaches more and more cats will enter our shelters looking for new homes and we will be doing everything we can to provide people with the opportunities to meet the perfect cat for their life. One of our favorite ways to introduce people and cats is through our “Meow Mixers”. These one of a kind events bring people together for an evening of fun and education about adopting cats, bringing cats into your life, introducing a new cat to a home where cats already live and so on.

Free cinema all weekend long

Last week I told you about the screening of Gone Forever at the AFI Silver in Silver Spring this Saturday April 16. There will be two shows at 12:30PM and 1:30PM. And not only are the screenings free to attend, but there will be free food, too. Go to the Gone Forever website for more information.

Washington Humane Society could win $100,000 to save animals lives!

Imagine what Washington Humane Society could accomplish if we won $100,000 in a contest to save lives. The lives that could be saved and the second chances granted, that sure would make a large difference to the animals in the District. WHS is currently in a position to win that money but we need your help!

WHS is one of 93 humane societies nationwide competing for a spot in the ASPCA’s $100K Challenge, a competition which could bring us the $100,000 grand prize to help more animals in the District. In order to be granted a spot in the competition, WHS must be one of the top 50 groups in community online voting. Voting ends on April 15th, 2011. Voters can cast their vote for WHS once each day at www.votetosavelives.org
