Members of Congress, local athletes, philanthropists and the fashion industry are assembling for DC’s Modus Union Spring 2011 – a unique event supporting prevention and early detection of cancer in women.

Modus Union Spring 2011 features a full runway show by acclaimed fashion designer Marc Bouwer (www.MarcBouwer.com), a 3-D film presentation previewing Bouwer’s Fall 2011 line, and an art installation and silent auction featuring some of the most talented visual artists in DC. The proceeds from this one-of-a-kind gathering will benefit Cancer Schmancer (www.CancerSchmancer.org), an organization founded by actress Fran Drescher to prevent cancer in women through education and early detection.

Washington D.C. (April 27, 2011) – The Nation’s Triathlon™ to Benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is sold out, but you can still participate by joining LLS’s Team In Training® (TNT) program.

Taking place on September 11, 2011, in the nation’s capital, The Nation’s Tri will mark its fourth year of bringing together triathletes for the common cause of helping cancer patients live longer better lives while taking on one of the country’s premiere athletic events. 

This past Easter weekend, while many celebrated the holiday and school spring break, a selected group of girls empowered themselves with the Becoming Your Own Heroine: Lessons in Self-Empowerment and Dating Violence program sponsored by Becky's Fund.  The free program focused on building self-esteem and empowerment while addressing conflict resolution, healthy relationships and dating violence for 9-18 year old girls.

Becky's Fund, is a national non-profit organization advocating for the elimination of domestic violence, the support of survivors of domestic violence, and the prevention and and education of domestic violence.

"Becoming Your Own Heroine" incorporated arts, music, theatre, and dance to address self-expression and pertinent issues while also teaching the girls what their rights are, both mentally and physically through a self-defense demonstration and lesson.
