Silver Spring, MD.  -- The Unique Thrift Store celebrated another successful Unique Closet Fashion Show event donating a $100,000 in store gift certificates that support Montogmery County families in need via County agencies, nonprofit organizations and schools.  Since the program began in 2007, Unique Thrift and Value Village stores have distributed $500,000 in gift cards to more than 15,000 County residents in need, enabling them to obtain a variety of merchandise from clothing and winter coats, to books and school supplies, to toys, bed linens, furniture, pots and pans, appliances and more at no charge.

Both the fashion show and the gift certificate program were started in 2007 by Chesapeake Public Strategies’ Ellen Bogage and this year's show was coordinated by Chesapeake's Dana Davidson.

The show featured everything from children clothes, to business wear to even evening gowns all purchased from the store.  I had the pleasure to emcee the event with Montgomery County Councilmember George Leventhal as we both modeled items from the store that cost under fifteen dollars.  Models included participants from the program’s partner organizations and Non-Profit Divas. Making their debut on the runway: Interfaith Works’ Marie Henderson, Jewish Foundation for Group Homes’ Vivian Bass, and MoCo Mental Health Association’s Sharon Friedman. The finale of the show included a check presentation from the regional director of Savers, Inc., Mike Tudino.  My personal best for the show, was seeing women and children that may never walk a real runway get the opportunity to have confidence in themselves in wearing something unique to them that made them feel good inside and out.  Everyone knows when you look good, you feel good and therefore you will do good for yourself!

The Unique Thrift Store is owned by Savers, Inc. and actively supports the community by partnering with local charities and providing nearly 400 full-time jobs and benefits to local Montgomery County residents. To find a Unique Thrift or Value Village store near you, please visit www.imunique.com.
