Local son Owen Danoff played to a sellout crowd of over 500 Country and Folk Rock fans at the renowned Birchmere Music Hall in Alexandria Virginia on Saturday night, July 9.  Most of the crowd was there to see headliner Kasey Chambers, who rocked the packed house with her distinct voice, beautiful songwriting, and poignant Australian stories, but Owen’s opening set was well received and his stage presence had the crowd laughing and ready to hear more.  He played alongside Berklee College of Music student and band mate Adrien Godat, who also strummed guitar and sang harmony.

“What an honor and gift to have the loveliest evening surrounded by advisors, supporters and dear friends,” says Williams. “The Finnish Ambassador and his wife Laurel Colless are supreme hosts and I couldn’t have asked for a better evening.”

To most with a passing familiarity with the school, DeMatha is synonymous with sports. When I told people that I attended DeMatha, I was frequently asked “What sport do you play?” My response of “I don’t play a sport,” was always met by befuddlement and a perfunctory “Then why do you go to DeMatha?”

Let me tell you.

Creativity Cures: VSA DC and Children's Medical Benefit

Thursday night, as the bustling rush of downtown employees exiting their jobs for the day, in their midst was a positive and creative light coming from the VSA  (Very Special Arts) DC building at 16th and L for the Creativity Cures event.  Creativity Cures is a fundraiser, silent auction, concert, and exhibition showcasing artwork done by youth from VSA DC and Children’s National Medical Center / New Horizons.  In my role as Miss Washingtonian Galaxy coupled with my youth building platform, I was honored to participate in this event that supported Washington's disabled youth and young adults.
