On Saturday, January 15th, the Boys and Girls Club of Washington at the THEARC was full of hundreds of excited, passionate, smart adolescent girls, united to change the world with the help of the United Nations Foundation’s Girl Up Campaign.

Girl Up is an innovative campaign, created by the United Nations Foundation, to address the needs of adolescent girls in developing countries. This “for girls, by girls” campaign mobilizes American girls to raise awareness and funds for programs of the United Nations that help some of the world’s hardest-to-reach adolescent girls. Through Girl Up’s support, girls will have the opportunity to become educated, healthy, safe, counted and positioned to be the next generation of leaders.

In true “Pollywood” fashion, for the pep rally tour launch, D.C. brought out the star power with special appearances by America’s Next Top Model fashion photographer and author Nigel Barker, Grammy Award Winning Estelle Darlings, WNBA Washington Mystics Star Alana Beard, and Miss Teen USA Kamie Crawford.  In a passport style simulation activity, girls traveled to various stations that represented different countries and then via educational and fun filled activities learned about the unique challenges girls faced in those countries.
